On the second day of Christmas my true love sent to me – US growth, a Chinese denouement and Trump’s future in the balance

On the third day of Christmas my true love sent to me – the ECB under review and Lagarde in charge

On the fourth day of Christmas my true love sent to me – burgeoning sustainability funds and calls for ESG guidelines

As 2020 approaches, opinion continues to oscillate between the doomsayers and the optimists. Those presaging a market correction, whilst others feel the S&P 500 can extend a gain of more than 25% this year. Those still nervous about the prospect of stage 2 of the new US / China trade agreement, whilst others see it as a natural follow-on from stage 1. Those resorting to the comfort of bonds for fear of a substantial market correction and those seeking riskier equity exposure as Jay Powell anticipates further economic growth. Those who belittle the environmental imperative and those managing sustainable funds with surging credibility, putting ESG and responsible corporate culture at the heart of corporate behaviour, disclosure and investibility.

2019 has been the fulcrum of a pivotal shift in how companies and funds will be run. Gone the days where profitability was sole king, here the days where businesses must be viable, sustainable and moral to survive. Never has it been more important for companies to reflect critically upon their purpose, understand market sentiment and make a compelling, unimpeachable case for themselves. No man is an island and the buck stops right here. Time to rise to the challenge and navigate continued mixed signals to demonstrate a serious approach and the wherewithal to deliver for the long-term.

Montfort’s IR offer is geared to anticipating and responding to the unprecedented complexity and breadth of corporate needs, given MiFID II, the inexorable rise of ESG imperatives and the requirement for strong corporate culture. We advise on fully integrated and responsible reporting, with high impact, comprehensive investment messaging deployed across key communications conduits – the investor presentation, the IR website and annual report. We provide dynamic insight through market analysis and high level perceptions work. And we complement this with independent insight and guidance on reputation, governance and market interaction at Chairman, executive management and IR team level. We have what it takes.
